CALLING ALL JAPANESE SPEAKERS!

I'm currently trying to romanize/translate a song (RURUTIA's "Hyousa", to be specific). Because I haven't taken Japanese in over six months (in which that semester's class was a total joke anyway), I'm a little rusty, especially in the abstract grammar department.

Anyone who speaks Japanese, or at least knows it on a conversational level, would you mind checking my romanization/translation? I worked from the kanji lyrics, but where my dictionary didn't kick in, I romanized a character here and there from ear.

BOLDED parts are those I am really unsure about.

First Verse
雪のようさ　いつも君の手は冷たいね
yuki no yousa itsumo kimi no te wa tsumetai ne
(Just like snow, your hand is always cold)

つないだら　そっと溶けてしまいそうだよ

(Notes: Unsure about pronoun here. Is it "even if YOU lose [...]" or "even if I lose [...]"? I want to say maybe it's from the first person, because the next line expresses the speaker's own desire, not the person to whom she is speaking. Turns out it IS be forgiven instead of forgive.)

(Notes: I'm just all over the place here. The act of crushing/ruining/smashing---I assume the plea is for God to do it, but I'm almost certain I am wrong. This just sounds too awkward a translation.)

Second Verse
本当は少し怖くて迷ってた
"hontou wa sukoshi kowakutte mayotteta
("The truth is, I was a little scared and confused)

(Notes: Assuming the first two lines are spoken by the guy--and not Rurutia/girl/primary speaker in this song--I'm unsure whether to stop his narration at THIS line or at the end of the previous. The "~~だと" at the end of the previous line makes me think his part stops there, and the whimsical "の" at the end of the this line makes me think it's not so much what the guy says, but what the girl is asking. Aka not "I don't need memories" but rather "You don't need memories, do you?")

繰り返し胸を斬りつけるだけだから
kurikaeshi mune wo kiritsukeru dake dakara
(Because, repeatedly, the only things cutting your heart are)
[Notes: Again, this translation rests on the assumption that the first two lines are spoken by the object of affection (the person whose hands the primary speaker refers to as being cold in the first verse). Thus, the primary speaker herself reflects that because that guy feels that way/is distant because he hurts himself with his own words/cynicism, I guess. I just feel completely wonky about this part because my conjugation-o-meter is broken here T_T]

(Notes: Technically, the verb for overflowing was in the line before this, but y'know, I had to phrase it this way because of the converse way in which English works versus Japanese. But otherwise, this line just looks weird to me.)

HIATUS

When you're doing some practice AP questions for Calc BC and Chem and feel like bursting into tears, you know it's time to take a break from the internets.

Just a short hiatus in preparation for the AP exams in May. I'll be back after May 15 or so. I'll be around LJ posting to comms like calculus and chemistryhelp and maintaining the icontest I co-mod at (updates that take all but 5 minutes), but no personal journal updates or flist reading. =(

Today was my first day of English 1B at Mission College...it was pretty interesting. The instructor seems very intelligent and she dresses nicely, but she has a nose ring, lol. Totally out of the blue. The class seems pretty challenging actually; I'm excited to start reading and writing more critically =) On a sour note, I got a B on my first Calculus BC test =\ It's not terrible, but it's not what I wanted either. I really have to start hitting the books in advance and not wait til the night before the test XD I did a bunch of extra credit over the weekend so I might be able to raise that B to an A. 's all good.

1) I like Ceramics a lot. I'm getting a lot better at it. :D I just finished making a clock and right now I'm working on a bowl in the shape of a leaf. It's so much fun and it's great to balance my brain, since I use the left side far too much. :| It's a relief to use the right side for once~ :]

2) I'm going to make a handwriting post soon. :P! Once I fix my scanner.

3) I found out I share the same birthdate (March 15th) with Takeuchi Naoko, the creator of Sailor Moon. D: And with six million other people, but that's not the point. XD;

TUTORIAL : Ayumi Hamasaki (PSP 7)

I haven't written an icon tutorial in almost 11 months :O! I actually had a few forum requests for this one, so here we go! (not dialup friendly, sorry :[)

Program: Paintshop Pro 7
Translatable?: YES; other versions of PSP and Adobe Photoshop okay
Skill: Easy

NOTE: I made this icon in January 2006 after getting my new computer. At that time I still didn't have access to the internet and had to use textures/brushes I already had, so please note that some of these resources may not be available for download from the maker anymore (they might've taken down their older stuff). My apologies if that is the case! Okay, let's start.

PREP) Pick your image! I chose THIS ONE. I forgot where I found it; either at _ayumihamasaki or ayuchib or iloveayu.com. Crop so that Ayu's face is on the left side of the icon, and then resize the image to 100x100. Sharpen ONCE. Duplicate the base three times. Set the first duplicate (layer 2) to [SOFT LIGHT, 100]. Desaturate the second duplicate (layer 3) and set it to [HARD LIGHT, 76]. Set the third duplicate (layer 4) to [SOFT LIGHT, 100]. You can add more color/brightness adjustment layers depending on the quality and lighting of your image.

After cropping: --> After touchups:

1) I know it looks as if Ayu has a really bad tan at this point, but trust me, it'll get better. Now, take this reddish texture by colorfilter and put it on top at [SOFT LIGHT, 100].

2) Yay, Ayu's skin looks better now! Next, slap on this nice notebook-like texture from dearest and set it to [SCREEN, 47]. I chose to erase the right side of the texture where the notebook spirals are, but that's up to you. Afterwards, duplicate the base once more, drag it to the very top, desaturate it and set it to [HARD LIGHT, 100]. The icon now looks a bit faded but has a subtle greenish tint to it.

3) Then, use this vibrant texture by dearest at the very top on [HARD LIGHT, 51]. Use the eraser to erase the parts of the texture that cover up the important spots on your icon. In this case, I erased the areas that obscured Ayu's face.

4) Here's where the icon gets most of its color! Take this colorfilter light texture and put it on top at [SCREEN, 100]. See the lovely red hue it gives the icon? ^_^ Then, to make the base show up a bit better, duplicate the base yet again, drag it to the top, and set it to [SOFT LIGHT, 100]. You can omit some of the base duplication steps if you find that it unnecessarily darkens your icon too much.

5) THIS PART IS OPTIONAL. I'm a big fan of the details, so I like to spend time on steps that people probably never notice anyway. XD I took another picture of Ayu from the same photoshoot, cropped it, resized it, erased a big part of it to fade it, and put it on top at [NORMAL, 12]. Unnecessary step? Most likely, but it's fun when there's a little bit of something out there in the background. This step also brightens up the icon a bit (I also used this subtle blending technique in my Ai Otsuka tutorial). You can totally skip this if you want.

6) The icon is almost done at this point, except for text. Text isn't always necessary of course; only when you're sure you can make it look good. There's nothing wrong with simplicity so don't feel obligated to slap some text on if it doesn't flatter your icon (I've been seeing this a lot lately >_>;;). I happen to love this particular text brush (by chouchoune) though, and the text goes with the image, so I went ahead and rotated it 90 degrees right and put it on in WHITE (#FFFFFF). The blending mode is [NORMAL, 100]. I duplicated the text layer three times to get it to show up better.

7) You can stop here if you'd like, but I feel like adding a border. On a new layer using the rectangular selection tool, fill the sides of the icon with thin strips of a dark red color (#ba4319). You can also automatically add a border that's symmetrical on all sides, but this way some sides are bolder than others and it's just a touch more unique. Set the border layer to [BURN, 48].

And you're done! =) THE FINAL RESULT:

☆ Please remember that it's always great to credit the makers of the brushes/textures/gradients! Not a credit whore by any means, but it's just nice to acknowledge them for their work. I actually remembered who made what for every resource this time ^__^

The 2nd-anniversary celebration layout is up! XD Featuring the twins Mio and Mayu from the ultra freaky yet ultra addictive Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly (this journal's namesake!). I gave up at the last minute trying to code in S1 style (cause I wanted a sidebar layout and the stupid horizontal scrollbar wouldn't go away), and then decided to make it S2 since I used S2 a lot in this journal's wee beginning days. :D Nostalgia, wootz~!

Hmm, I started out really liking it but now I just think it's okay. I guess I've been looking at it for too long, haha. And also cause I don't like S2, but just for this layout. :p

Someone tell me to stop making red layouts. >_>;;

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GAME IN THE GALAXY.

This is late cause I just got home but EXCUSE ME WHILE I CRY MY EYES OUT (again). FROM HAPPINESS. (I still love you all, though, France fans on my flist)

ITALIA NUMBER ONE. I AM SO FRICKING HAPPY I COULD DIE.

FRANCE IN THE SECOND OVERTIME PERIOD. BZUH?! I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH DIRTY TACTICS IN ANY GAME. ZIDANE WAS OUT OF HIS MIND (which is a shame, since I'd call him one of the 10 best players in the world and it sucks to end his career that way). That redcard was a good call of the game. There were some other French players that didn't seem to mind giving the Italian players a facefull of elbow every now and then. And the way they fall? OH PLEASE. "Oh, you barely grazed me, you bad, bad Italian man! I am now going to die cause you broke my bones!" Oscar-worthy acting, much?

Other than the dirty playing, France played well, though their attackers are behind in ability than those of Italy. That missed sudden death shot at the end was just lame.

My poor Luca Toni (number 9) got a HELL of a beating! People seemed to be crashing into him more than anyone (minus the guy who got headbutted by Zidane, wtf) and he seemed so beat. T_T Grosso did a good job though, as well as Del Piero and Cannavaro.

Italy's goal right after France's penalty one was probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life. It was a head goal, and it was just breathtaking. ;~;

I LOVE THE ITALIAN TEAM SO, SO MUCH. Beautifully played, guys. Beautifully played. ;~; Nicely played by France too, I admire their fighting spirit, though they have to do away with the violence. :\

Sorry for posting w/o a cut again, last time XDD (for another 4 years anyway XD) (In other news, I got approved by tfl.org for Shimatani Hitomi's "Destiny~Taiyou no Hana~", so be on the lookout for that XD!!!)

End of School Year Reflection Entry™

Here's the overly-cliched end of school year looking back entry! XD Public for the IRL people, of course.

I don't know where to start the reflection on this year. It's strange that no matter how much you may struggle throughout the course of the year, at the end you always want to go back and live it all over again. And how at the end of each year, you reflect that no part of the past months would've been worth remembering had you not shared it with the incredible people that you did.

I went through a lot this year. Most of the negative points was from academic stuff, mostly the applying to schools and studying for AP tests and busting my ass in calculus. Even though I was screwed over financially by UOP at the end of it all, I like how I know that I am capable of handling the college application process now. And because of that, I know that applying to many more schools next year will be a breeze. It's very rewarding also to know that I was accepted to college at 15-years-old. XD Calculus AB AP, though it stretched me to my very ends and made me want to cry multiple times, is the best course I have ever taken. It really whipped me into shape. It forced me to look at myself and say, "Nami, you messed up. You're not the student you used to be, the student whose favorite and best subject was mathematics. After last year's academic failures, don't you want to be smart again?" And so I tried so hard and I am so glad it paid off. That I went from getting D's on my tests to getting over 100% on them in a month. How I finished the course with a 96% and how I truly learned. Also, this year I felt honestly prepared for AP tests and I can't explain how gratifying a feeling it is to LEARN. "The end justifies the means." No matter how hard or tedious or bitchy school will get in the future, I know I'll always be able to look back on this time, smile, and KNOW I can power through anything. It definitely helped me feel better and not so much like a complete failure like English AP did to me.

Then there's the people. I can write a five hundred page book on how the wonderful people that I met and got to know better this year spirited away my heart completely, and it would still not be enough. I went through a lot of social strife last year and this year, for me, felt like a breath of fresh air after being in a gas chamber. I learned to recognize true friends from fake ones a little better this year, formed wonderful new friendships and strengthened many more. I got to see new sides of some people and in turn, new sides of myself. I lost someone that I never thought I'd see myself happy without, but now I know that no matter who I lose, the memories are still there, and as long as I can look back on those and smile, it's okay. I feel especially loved knowing that I'm considered as a part of both the classes of 06 AND 07, and that I have so many wonderful people to share memories with. I'm so privileged I can't put it into words.

So I guess this is the part where I start mentioning names. XD I met lots of great new people this year, but the ones that stick out most in my mind are Bryan, Mikey, Jenny (Dao), Jennifer (Dao), Jennifer (Cheng), Vinny, Trixi, Harrison, Afsheen, Mary, Ryan, Beatrice, Ashley and so much more. XD I got closer to Rebecca, Stefanie, Pragya, Jaison, Liz, Josh, Mae, Nichole, Lailani, Alex (Bedollarz), Luke, Philip, Dmitriy, Trav, and Kristianna. ;]

Thanks for all that you guys have given me. I'm glad that I got to know all the people I did this year. Prom was a blast, all those random times were a blast, Homecoming activities were great, Winter Formal was fantastic, that ultimate frisbee match was awesome, and all those library homework sessions were painful but fun all the same. Good luck Class of 2006; thank you for being so welcoming and great during the 6 months that I was with you guys (officially 6 months; 1 year+ if you count all the classes I had with you all :p). Class of 2007 -- let's live it up next year. (Cause everyone knows that I have like nothing left to take at FHS... XD)

I'm going to end it here because there's plenty more that can't be put into words. Plus, I'm going to start tearing up anyway. ~~jk, jk~~

Finally, a new layout! :D I've at last activated my Photoshop CS2 after a while of it not letting me, and one hour, ten minutes and 62 layers later, here's version 8 featuring Ai Otsuka!

Yes, I know I'm using Mika Nakashima lyrics to an Ai Otsuka layout. I don't care! XD What better way to combine two of my favorite J-artists anyway :p

Um yeah. Still fine tuning some details (still have to make a new FO banner), but I think it looks good for the most part~ :3

I'm doing this meme for some IRL friends since I know I can already say whatever I need to to all my LJ friends. ♥ Plus, you know, to mix it up. :D

1. I never thought I'd find a more amazing friend who I could be so utterly retarded around. You do so, so much for me. No more words needed.
2. I wish I started getting to know you earlier; the best part of that night was our talks. You're one of the most beautiful people I've ever met; inside and outside.
3. I remember that whenever I used to see you laughing, my body felt so alive that it was painful. I don't think I'll ever be able to forget that, or us, even if you will.

Small "Friends Cut"

SMALL "FRIENDS CUT".

I'd rather call these Friends List Re-organization, since "cut" is a term I never really liked. (I'll probably never do one of these again for a very long time; I love y'all ^^)

For the most part, I only removed the duplicate, no longer used journals of the people that already moved to new names :] I've only removed two people since we didn't really talk, and I didn't feel as if I knew them really. Deepest apologies; if you're one of them and you mind at all, simply tell me ♥
